Stanley Way WTS Facility is now in operation

18 Aug 2010

The new facility at Stanley Way Waste Transfer Station was officially opened on Friday 13th August.

This design and construct project was undertaken by Cheetham Hill Construction for client Lancashire County Council and will enable operator West Lancashire Borough Council to improve the efficiency of its refuse and recycling service.

Works incorporated the construction of a 3500m2 portal steel framed and clad waste transfer station building, pre-cast concrete push walls and concrete bunker walls, a reinforced concrete external hardstanding, two weighbridges, office building and all access roads. Site remediation, preparation, earthworks and mechanical and electrical installation was also included.

This new facility will provide state-of-the-art equipment to enable refuse and recycling materials collected in the borough to be stored before being taken to the county council's new facility at Farrington for further treatment and recycling. It will also maximise the amount of material for recycling by providing purpose-designed, under-cover storage facilities for garden waste, glass, paper, card, cans, cardboard and textiles where there is no risk of cross-contamination.
