Contracts Manager

Location: Cheetham Hill Construction is a well-established and award-winning contractor, with headquarters in Bury, Greater Manchester. We undertake work on a variety of projects up to £15M in value across the country for a number of loyal, high-profile clients.

Role: We are now seeking a Contracts Manager, experienced in civil engineering and earthworks to join our team, working out of our Head Office in Bury.

What you will be doing:

On a day-to-day basis we will expect you to:

  • Ensure contracts are completed to budget and within client-defined timescales
  • Take ownership and responsibility for all aspects of each contract
  • Produce a resourced cost plan/programme for each contract prior to commencement
  • Promote best practice, and ensure use of Company Policies/Procedures in terms of financial management, Health & Safety, Quality, Environmental and engineering on all aspects of the contract
  • Enhance our reputation through fostering positive working relationships with clients, designers, and consultants
  • Question on an ongoing basis, production levels, gang sizes, material alternatives etc, to ensure that maximum efficiency/best buying practices are constantly being undertaken
  • Support and offer advice to all members of your team whilst ensuring our company procedures are followed in the construction of the works
  • Provide fortnightly cost/value and progress/programme comparisons.

Qualifications: To be successful in this role we will expect you to have the following:

  • Ideally hold a Civil Engineering Degree
  • Valid CSCS card
  • Be competent in Health and Safety practice
  • Current valid driving license

Experience: If you have significant experience managing all aspects of civil engineering projects, including drainage, concrete, piling, earthworks, utilities and river works, we would like to hear from you. Equally important will be your site management experience and ability to manage budgets/ programmes. Outstanding communication skills will be required in order to lead negotiations with client representatives at a senior level.

PLANT MAINTENANCE & SUPPORT ADMINISTRATOR

Location: Head Office, Bury

Role: Cheetham Hill Construction is a well-established and award-winning contractor, with headquarters in Bury, Greater Manchester. We undertake work on projects across the country for a number of high-profile clients. We now have a great opportunity for an experienced administrator to join our Head Office team. You will be responsible for organising the maintenance, servicing and hire of all plant and equipment.

Responsibilities would include:

• Organising the maintenance and servicing of the Plant fleet and all other equipment

• Assisting with Plant queries and liaising with drivers and suppliers

• Placing purchase orders and hiring operated and non-operated plant

• Inspection of plant pre- and post- hire

Key Skills

• IT literate with excellent communication and teamworking skills

• Commercial awareness

• Organised and flexible

• Be able to problem solve

• Ability to build working relationships with suppliers and staff

Experience: If you are familiar with Caterpillar and Volvo Machines, then this would be ideal, however it is not essential. More important will be your enthusiasm and genuine interest in plant and construction.

Estimator

Location: Cheetham Hill Construction is a well-established and award-winning contractor, with headquarters in Bury, Greater Manchester. We undertake work on projects across the country for a number of high-profile clients. This role is based at our Head Office in Bury.

Role: You will play a crucial role in supporting the continuous flow of new business through the Company. We carry out a huge variety of civil engineering and construction contracts, ranging in value from £5,000 to £15million for an increasingly broad spectrum of clients. Ideally, you will have already worked in a similar role for a civil engineering contractor, pricing works involving earthworks, concrete, drainage and remediation etc.

What you will be doing: On a day-to-day basis, you will be involved in:

  • Reviewing incoming enquiries
  • Assessing all relevant technical issue
  • Carrying out site visits
  • Preparing take-offs and materials schedule
  • Preparing subcontract enquiries and evaluating quotation
  • Preparing estimates and outlining programmes for the costs of the works
  • Coordinating tender submissions including health and safety, environmental and quality elements
  • Submitting proposals to clients
  • Negotiating terms and conditions with clients prior to contract award  
  • Participating in tender handover meetings

What you will need: 

  • Good IT skills, including the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Experience of using Conquest estimating software and Microsoft Project
  • Ability to review construction drawings and perform quantity take-offs
  • Skill to produce estimates from first principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • A professional attitude to representing the Company
  • Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines
  • Capability to work on multiple tenders and budgets

Site Manager

Location: Cheetham Hill Construction is a well-established and award-winning contractor, with headquarters in Bury, Greater Manchester. We undertake work on projects across the country for a number of high-profile clients.

Role: As one of our Site Managers, based out of our Head Office, you will be working throughout the North of England, on both large and small projects in our expanding portfolio. We are looking for Civil Engineers with at least 5 years’ experience of managing/supervising staff in general groundworks and civils work including drainage, highways, reinforced concrete, remediation, and hard landscaping. .

On a day-to-day basis, we will expect you to:

  • Plan and organise labour and plant on site
  • Work as part of a team and maintain client relations
  • Uphold high safety standards at all times
  • Project a professional image and lead by example
  • Maintain Quality Control
  • Ensure resources are used efficiently on site and that it is a safe and tidy place to work and visit
  • Control costs by monitoring them weekly
  • Have a working knowledge of MS Project, maintain and update contract programmes
  • Keep records and maintain an electronic filing system
  • Be IT literate, able to use Word, Excel and other electronic documentation
  • Manage and reduce waste

What you will need:

  • Experience in a variety of Civil Engineering disciplines
  • HND/HNC or higher
  • Valid CSCS card
  • SMSTS qualification
  • First aid at work qualification
  • Competency in Health and Safety practice
  • A good knowledge of Environmental Management
  • Current valid driving license
