CHC is enjoying great success working with Project Recce

17 May 2021

Just over 18 months ago CHC started working with Project Recce. During this time we have achieved a great deal; from providing sustained employment opportunities for veterans to signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

Armed Forces Covenant - CHC have signed the Armed Forces Covenant. It is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Prior to signing the covenant as a company CHC had actively provided sustained employment to a number of veterans with the help of Project Recce. As more projects become available new veterans are joining us on a regular basis. Currently we have five veterans Tom, Robert, Patrick, Iain and Arran. With Peter due to start on 1st June.

Recent success stories include Iain who joined CHC in June 2020. Iain was providing close protection security overseas and was able to retrain in the role of trainee plant operator. Iain is now celebrating his one year anniversary and is now a fully qualified plant operator.

As well as providing potential career opportunities CHC’s HR Director has taken part in online interview events providing interview tips and important interview experience.

CHC HR Director, Claire Chamberlain “CHC are fortunate to be able to provide opportunities to former military personnel. The skills the veterans have, such as teamwork and problem solving, are transferable to the planning, execution, risk management and operating of heavy machinery. Initially we were recruiting plant operators but this has evolved into management and groundwork  positions. We have veterans working on sites in Barrow, HS2 and across the North for the Environment Agency with approximately 5% of our site workforce now made up from veterans”.

“Project RECCE is a proven career transition programme. Funded in partnership with The Royal Foundation and The Armed Forces Covenant Fund, our unique programme is supported in collaboration by industry leading construction companies and military charities, local delivery partners and employers and prepares veterans for their first role in the construction industry.

With core values centred on integrity, community, peer-support and the relentless pursuit of excellence, we promote the very best that service-leavers represent. We work tirelessly to both prepare our beneficiaries for their new career and to provide support on an enduring basis to employers and employees alike.

Our mission is focused on that seamless pathway from the military to construction, 'To enable service leavers to gain sustainable full-time employment within the construction industry in order to support veteran transition and reduce construction skills shortage.'

Over the last 18 months we have had the pleasure of working with Cheetham Hill Construction which has demonstrated a great commitment to the Armed Forces community, recruiting 5 members of the Project RECCE community as well as supporting our programme with mock interviews and industry insights. We look forward to working more closely together over coming months and years across the UK and believe that any service leaver who joins this family-run business with similar core values and standards to the British military will be very fortunate to do so.” Laurence Moore, Operations Director, Project RECCE
