CECA winners!

On Friday 6th October CHC scooped the Project of the Year (£1m - £5m) award at the CECA NW awards held at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

We were engaged by the Environment Agency to design and re-construct a 100m length of riverbank that was slipping into the river. The embankment protected over 50 properties in the village of Chapel Haddlesey, Selby but also formed the gardens to the rear of 5 properties.

18m long piles were installed along the line of the original embankment toe which had scoured away to create a new river embankment and foreshore using a 110t crawler crane. 12m long piles were installed in the foreshore and the 2 sets of piles tied together with 25mm diameter threaded bar.

The embankment was re-constructed using imported clay fill reinforced with geogrids at 1m centres.

Rock armour was installed at the toe and erosion protection matting was pegged to the embankment surface prior to being re-seeded. The gardens were then re-turfed and new fencing installed to the landowner’s satisfaction. All the recycled aggregate used in the ramps, platforms and tracks were removed and re-used off site.

Mike Goodier commented: “We are delighted to have received this award as there were many great projects nominated. Our thanks go to the whole team including JBA Consulting and Sheet Piling UK for their invaluable input and making the project such a success”. Click below to see what we did.
