Construction of Withernwick II wind farm in the East Riding of Yorkshire. This project is believed to be the first UK wind farm to be financed without the requirement of government subsidies or support mechanisms. This project represents a major milestone for the UK onshore wind energy market.
Withernwick II is an 8.2MW extension to the existing Energiekontor wind farm built in 2013 and takes the overall capacity to 26.65MW. The extension comprises four additional Senvion MM992 2.05MW turbines together with associated ancillary infrastructure including crane pads, access tracks and underground cabling to connect the wind turbines to an extension to the existing substation.
Work completed in Spring 2019 and the electricity generated by the project is being sold to a global consumer goods company under a long-term power purchase agreement.
