Flood defence works at Donna Nook nature reserve in Lincolnshire.
The project required the construction of a 2600m long flood defence embankment using site won soils, landscaping/seeding works, construction of new habitat areas (Tern Islands and Natterjack Toad scrapes) and construction of a new public car park.
Installation of a new ductile iron pipework system for the existing pumping station was also undertaken.
The site was adjacent a SSSI area and the site team worked around the restrictions of nesting birds and badgers. The project also had to be programmed around the migration of grey seals, which are local to the area.
The site won material was excavated in a series of bays to limit plant movement and maximise the amount of suitable material.
