Work experience in civil engineering: so much more than hard hats and heavy machinery

The civil engineering industry isn’t just about diggers and muddy boots – there’s a whole world behind the scenes. From health & safety and procurement to finance, estimating, and recruitment, there are many exciting roles that help bring construction projects to life.

That’s why we’re strong believers in offering work experience opportunities to everyone – it opens young minds to career paths they might never have considered.

Last week, we were pleased to welcome Hattie, a Year 12 student from Bury Grammar School, who spent a few days with us in the office. She got a first-hand look at the less visible – but equally vital – side of construction and civil engineering.

We’re looking forward to meeting more young people in the next few weeks. Who knows – we might just be inspiring the next generation of engineers, planners, site managers or even digger drivers!
