Environment Agency Net Zero Carbon Innovation Pathway Fund

02 Aug 2021

CHC were successful in our application for funding from the Environment Agency Net Zero Carbon Innovation Pathway Fund (2021/22)

Working in collaboration with EA Innovation Team, National Composites Centre, our design partners JBA Consulting and our FRP reinforcement supplier Schöck we were able to complete the design and approvals in a very short time to ensure that the project commencement remained on schedule.

FRP reinforcement offers a reduction of up to 80% of embodied carbon when compared to traditional steel reinforcement.

Other benefits of using FRP reinforcement are that it is significantly lighter than steel so the health and safety benefits around manual handling are significant, and as FRP reinforcement doesn’t rust the finished structures are more durable and requires less maintenance, while still achieving design life of 100 years.

We believe this is the first structure that has been constructed using FRP for the Environment Agency.
