10 Jul 2006

Cheetham Hill Construction has become one of Britain"s first "Green Heroes".

The Company recently received the Green Organisation's Green Heroes Shield, presented by leading botanist Professor David Bellamy OBE, at an awards ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London.

This new annual award is given to companies and local authorities who have demonstrated their commitment to the environment and by doing so, have helped others to follow their environmental lead.

The judges acknowledged how CHC had changed its working ethos to target contracts that make a positive contribution to the environment. Previously, the company was best known for its work in earth moving and construction of land fill sites but now work also includes waterways pollution remediation, cleaning up contaminated sites and creating wildlife habitats.

Mark Foden, Cheetham Hill Constructions Environmental Manager said: "Becoming one of the Green Organisation's first Green Heroes is a great achievement for CHC. As a company we make every effort to address the environmental issues that are involved in our day to day work. We recognise that our operations can have a direct impact on both the natural and built environment and this has enabled us to integrate environmental management into our business strategy."
