The Project

13km of 600dia ductile iron pipes were laid between Laundwood PS and the Haweswater Aqueduct and between Clitheroe Rd, Waddington and Lowcocks Service Reservoir.

Both civil and MEICA modifications  were made at Laundwood Pumping Station and Lowcocks Service Reservoir, along with the construction of chemical dosing building and equipment and connections to existing distribution mains and aqueducts.

Line valves installations were carried out on the Ribble Siphon of the Haweswater Aqueduct, including the construction of a valve house. Reinstatements included extensive land drainage replacement.

The work also involved the crossing of numerous watercourses and main river together with crossing and reinstatements to river walls and banks along with temporary works. Liaison undertaken with the EA for temporary works and discharge consents along with silt and run off protections.

The project was situated in the heart of the Trough of Bowland an area of outstanding natural beauty including Ancient Woodland and Duchy Land and involved significant environmental, operational and third party management and constraints.

This project was awarded the Green Organisation Green Apple National Bronze Award for Environmental Best Practice.
