Construction of new recycling centre underway in Kirkby
Cheetham Hill Construction has commenced with the construction of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre in Kirkby for client Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority.
The new HWRC will have the capacity to receive up to 15,000 tonnes of householders' waste and recyclable materials each year.
An increased number of larger containers, more space on site for cars and the provision of an overhead weather-protection canopy, will make it more convenient for members of the public to dispose of recyclable and waste items.
This is also CHC's first CEEQUAL assessed project. A scheme that recognises and prioritises environmental considerations such as protection of the local ecology and landscape, minimising the use of raw materials, water and energy, pollution prevention and control, together with waste minimisation and management.
The £1.1million project is scheduled to open in spring 2012.
