The Project

Construction of three new flood embankments (Hatton, Scropton and Eggington) in Derbyshire, designed to protect homes, businesses and farm land from the River Dove and its tributaries.

The flood embankments were constructed using imported engineering clay. This typically involved the removal of existing topsoil for use on the new bund, placement of clay engineered in 250mm layers to form an impermeable core and final landscaping of the bund with existing topsoil placed on the clay core prior to seeding.

Various drainage systems and concrete box culverts were installed to assist the control of existing flows and surface water management.

Stone access tracks, a temporary bailey bridge and tarmac compounds to assist site access/setup were constructed together with the installation of new access track/paths, timber fencing and steps.

The scheme was located within flood risk areas so fuel container stores and bio-oil operated plant was utilised throughout construction.
