The Project

Protection of existing gas pipe running through a haulage yard

A & F Haulage own and operate over 100 road wagons. They wanted to convert part of their site in Little Hulton into a haulage yard for the use of the majority of their wagons.

It was identified that a gas main was running through the site. In order to protect it CHC first excavated a trench down both sides of the pipe. This was then mass poured with concrete and binded. Cordex Cellcore was then placed on the top of the binding. This was to prevent the ground heaving below and also to prevent the formation of gaps below the concrete and ground.

Working with a steel contractor a top slab was formed over the pipe. The idea of the top slab was to transfer the load from vehicles sideways into the footings and displaced through the ground.
