This design and construction project required the construction of a 114m concrete platform, together with associated footpath, access road and fencing works.
CHC worked together with designer Tensar to create a unique structure, which supports the platform.
Tactile paving was laid down the length of the platform and wooden fencing was erected around the perimeter of the platform.
A tarmac footpath was constructed, which meets disability standards (1:20 slope) and a tarmac access road constructed to allow access to the track for East Lancashire Railway.
The works were undertaken in Burrs Country Park, an operational area, which is home to various businesses. Sound relationships were established with these businesses prior to the commencement of work on site and maintained throughout the construction process to ensure the project was undertaken with minimal disruption.
This will become the railway’s seventh calling point and enable visitors to the country park to board steam and diesel train services to Heywood, Bury, Summerseat, Ramsbottom, Irwell Vale and Rawtenstall.
