Proposals Manager

Location: Head Office – Bury

Role: The Proposals Manager will help to manage the bid process from the initial identification of a tender opportunity through to final submission. They will be responsible for the quality aspects of the bid, which includes written documentation and may incorporate presentations and other related material. They will ensure all bid documentation is clear, concise and meets the tender requirements and will also ensure the visual standard of all documentation material is engaging and well presented. 

The Proposals Manager will co-ordinate all parties involved in the bid process and ensure they are aware of the level of contribution expected of them and know when their deadlines are. They will also ensure all deadlines are met and the submitted bid is as complete and accurate as possible, whilst also best reflecting the Company’s strengths and capabilities.

Skills:

  • Excellent time-management and organisation skills

Experience: The successful applicant will have experience of working within a bid writing or marketing team and producing detailed and engaging copy. They will thrive in a busy working environment and possess a sound understanding of tender documentation and the procurement process. Background knowledge of the civil engineering and construction industry would be advantageous.

Labourers

Location: Working on projects in the North West region.

Role: CHC is actively seeking site based employees for a number of upcoming projects. Reporting to the Site Agent and General Foreman you will be responsible for general labouring duties as required on site.

Qualifications: CSCS card (entry level or above) preferred.

Groundworkers

Location: Working on projects in the North West region.

Role: CHC is actively seeking site based employees for a number of upcoming projects. Reporting to the Site Agent and General Foreman you will be responsible for undertaking all groundwork activities on site.

Qualifications: CSCS (Skilled Worker) or CPCS card (small plant operator/dumpers/rollers) preferred. Confined Space and Street Works qualifications would also be an advantage.

Experience: The successful applicants will have experience in general groundworks and civils works including drainage, highways, concrete, landfill, remediation, hard landscaping, pipelaying and foundations.

Quantity Surveyor

Location: Head Office - Bury 

Role: The Quantity Surveyor will assist in the day to day financial management of allocated contracts, including procurement, monitoring and payment of nominated subcontractors. You will join an established team of Quantity Surveyors and report to the Commercial Manager.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Managing monthly cost reports, as well as forecasting cost and value accurately from commencement of a project through to completion of the project on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Submission of interim and final valuations promptly
  • Review contract progress and be proactive in addressing issues, including the issuing of relevant notices as required
  • Review all issues including providing solutions, costs and advice to ensure successful project completion
  • Ensure cash flow is maintained and provide early forecasting of any short fall
  • The procurement, placement of orders, payment, monitoring and review of subcontractors
  • Agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors

Skills/Experience: The successful applicant will be an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is commercially aware and contractually astute. They will be conversant in the NEC Suite of Contracts; FIDIC, ICC and JCT contracts. 

They will also be an excellent team player who is capable of working individually with a demonstrable track record of successful commercial management of civil engineering projects including major earthworks and Balance of Plant for onshore wind farms.

Estimator

Location: Head Office – Bury

Role: The Estimator will play a crucial role in supporting the continuous flow of new business through the Company. CHC carries out a huge variety of civil engineering and construction contracts, ranging in value from £5,000 to £15million for an increasingly broad spectrum of Clients and working as part of the Estimating Department provides exposure to all of these. You will be welcomed into a fast-paced environment, where no two jobs are the same. 

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Scrutinise incoming enquiries
  • Assess all relevant technical issues
  • Carry out site visits
  • Prepare take-offs and materials schedules
  • Prepare subcontract enquiries and evaluate quotations
  • Prepare estimates and outline programmes for the costs of the works
  • Coordinate tender submissions including health and safety, environmental and quality elements
  • Submit proposals to clients
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with clients prior to contract award  
  • Participate in tender handover meetings

Skills: 

  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Knowledge of Conquest estimating software and Microsoft Project
  • Necessary skills to review construction drawings and perform quantity take-offs
  • Ability to produce estimates from first principles
  • Capability to work on multiple tenders and budgets
  • Aptitude to work autonomously
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A professional attitude to representing the Company
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines

Experience: Ideally, the successful applicant will have already worked in a similar role for a civil engineering contractor, pricing works involving earthworks, concrete, drainage and remediation etc.
